Experience SUP yoga in crystal clear, heated water at Sandford Parks Lido in Cheltenham! SUP yoga lessons can reset your body and your mind in a whole new way so take the plunge with accredited ASI SUP yoga instructor, Alex Wittering

New to paddleboarding? New to yoga? Doesn't matter at all, our SUP yoga classes at Cheltenham Lido are completely beginner friendly so that anyone can have a go. There's space to go at your own pace, perhaps challenge yourself or just enjoy a new experience.

SUP yoga is all about getting outdoors and embracing a new perspective. The added challenge of being on the water really helps to bring you into the moment, and even the simplest of poses can become challenging for even the most practised of yogis! SUP yoga in an outdoor pool is the height of luxury (especially in this beautiful lido) as you can surround yourself in 1930s, art deco splendour, challenge your core and reset your mind, only occasionally taking a dip in the crystal clear, heated water :)

SUP yoga is a fun, challenging way to improve your strength, flexibility and balance. In yoga, we practice mindful movement that is not only strengthening our physical selves but also our minds. Being outside in this beautiful and peaceful location helps us to focus the mind, the added challenge from balancing on our boards leaves us little room for busy thoughts and rumination and so an hour of SUP yoga can help reset and restore even the most frazzled mind.

What you'll be doing...

We will meet at the beautiful Sandford Parks Lido, a historic, art deco, outdoor swimming pool built in 1935. Cheltenham lido serves the communities of Gloucestershire and surrounding counties with one of the most stunning and unique locations to swim outdoors, exercise, meet with friends and spend time with family. SUP yoga classes in a lido are the best of both worlds; practicing outdoors in a beautiful space whilst also in a clean, safe and controlled environment.

We will have a short on-land briefing covering the all-important SUP safety knowledge, SUP yoga gear and equipment (such as how to safely anchor a board for SUP yoga) and any questions you might have before popping our boards in the pool and anchoring to the swim lanes.

You won't need any prior paddleboarding experience to safely join in as we're only really paddling out into the middle of the pool for the class but Alex will guide you all the way when it comes to how to paddle, stand and position yourself on the board.

You will be able to try out various poses and postures on the calm, flat water of the swimming pool without boat traffic or other water users to worry about. Alex will give you postures to suit your ability and options to challenge yourself if you like.

What is an ASI-accredited SUP yoga instructor?

Alex is a 200-hour qualified yoga teacher, an ASI SUP instructor, a qualified ASI SUP yoga instructor and an STA Level 2 open water swim coach, so you're in very safe hands. The only requirement is that you are able to swim 50m unaided.

Additional Information

1On-site facilities
Full changing facilities inlcuding showers, lockers and toilets. There is also a pay and display carpark and an on-site cafe (the cinnamon buns are delightful)
2What should you wear?
You will need to dress for the weather in light quick drying gym wear or your swimming costume (speedos are fine gents) On cooler days a wetsuit is optional (we do not provide them) but they can be restrictive. Personally I prefer layers of light tight fitting gym wear that will dry quickly. There is of course a possibility of falling in, so bring a towel and a change of clothes, something warm to put on afterwards just in case. A bottle of water, suncream and perhaps a hat for a hot day. If the weather is looking a little wet bring a light rain coat (pac-a-mac). SUP yoga in the rain is MAGICAL but maybe not if you are feeling chilly!
3Feeling a little unsure?
New skills outside of our comfort zone can always seem a little daunting, but we are always SO much more capable than we think we are. We are passionate about making sure everybody feels safe, confident and happy with their experience; our approach is gentle, supportive and compassionate and you have nothing to worry about; we’ll look after you :)
4Refund & Cancellation Policy
We have to plan ahead and session spaces are limited so we offer a full refund if you notify us of your cancellation 2 weeks before your session or a 50% refund a week before your booked session (gift voucher sessions are non-refundable). We only operate under the safest conditions, as such if the weather (wind), or water (flow/flood) conditions are not appropriate for beginner’s lessons we will notify you and arrange a more suitable date for your experience.
