SUP Yoga on The River

New to paddleboarding? New to yoga? Doesn't matter! all our SUP yoga classes are completely beginner friendly so that anyone can have a go. There's space to go at your own pace, perhaps challenge yourself or just enjoy a new experience; put your feet in the water and breathe in the sights, smells and sounds all around you.

SUP yoga is all about getting outdoors and embracing a new perspective. The added challenge of being on the water really helps to focus your mind and bring you into the moment, and with that added focus comes the added ability to surprise yourself.

This activity is perfect for:

Everyone! It's a great opportunity to challenge yourself, have a bit of fun if you like, and to bring a bit of silliness into your practice. But it is also just a really lovely way to relax and unwind. No matter your experience or ability there will be something to try and always an invitation to just rest and enjoy your environment, to breathe and listen, be still and just drink it all in; this is wild SUP yoga!

What you'll be doing
  • Meet and greet at the sailing club followed by an opportunity to change, use the bathroom and talk through any concerns you may have.
  • A 15 - 20 minute safety and instructional briefing on land before we head out.
  • Head out onto the water for a short paddle downstream, on your knees or standing, no SUP experience is necessary, you will learn the basics on land.
  • You will learn how to anchor your boards securely and what to do with your paddle.
  • We will move through our 45-minute sequence with plenty of demos and clear instructions, you'll then have a nice long shavasana at the end (a lovely lie down on the board, being connected to nature).
  • When we are done there will be an opportunity for photos and an invitation to try or learn anything you didn’t get to do during the sequence.
  • On the way back to the clubhouse there is an invitation to swim with your board (Alex is a qualified STA level 2 open water coach and will keep you safe)
  • Shower and changing rooms are available at the clubhouse before you head home.
  • Get a discount voucher to put towards any of our SUP related experiences!

2On-site facilities
Wittering SUP & Yoga HQ is based at Arden Sailing Club where we have toilets, changing rooms, light refreshments, picnic tables and secure parking onsite.
3What should you wear?
You will need to dress for the weather in light quick drying gym wear or your swimming costume (speedos are fine gents) On cooler days a wetsuit is optional (we do not provide them) but they can be restrictive. Personally I prefer layers of light tight fitting gym wear that will dry quickly. There is of course a possibility of falling in, so bring a towel and a change of clothes, something warm to put on afterwards just in case. A bottle of water, suncream and perhaps a hat for a hot day. If the weather is looking a little wet bring a light rain coat (pac-a-mac). SUP yoga in the rain is MAGICAL but maybe not if you are feeling chilly!
4Feeling a little unsure?
New skills outside of our comfort zone can always seem a little daunting, but we are always SO much more capable than we think we are. We are passionate about making sure everybody feels safe, confident and happy with their experience; our approach is gentle, supportive and compassionate and you have nothing to worry about; we’ll look after you :)
